Driving in Vietnam
International driver’s licences are not accepted. A Vietnamese driving license is required to drive a car or motorcycle in Vietnam. These can be obtained from Hanoi Department of Public Works and Transportation. Driving in Vietnam is not for the faint hearted. A combination of poorly maintained roads and inconsiderate drivers make for hazardous travelling. It is strongly suggested that you hire a driver along with your car, as the roads can be stressful, especially in heavy traffic hours. Speak to your hotel management to enquire about where to find and hire professional drivers.
Safety Tips
Most roads do not have lane markings and even on those that do, drivers generally ignore them. Avoid driving at night if you can, roads are poorly lit and most motorists do not use their headlights.
